WinTech tapped for latest row2k “Ask the Boatbuilder” Feature

WinTech Racing recently contributed to row2k.com’s “Ask the Boatbuilder” feature. The topic: choosing between carbon vs Kevlar boats.

“As a boat company that supplies both carbon and Kevlar models, we get this question all the time. When choosing between a carbon and Kevlar boat, one should not consider the basic characteristics of each material as better or faster, without also factoring in the specific use of the boat to reach a decision; e.g. experience level of crew, water conditions, training or racing…” READ FULL ARTICLE HERE

Klaus Filter honored by FISA

On November 20th, the World Rowing Federation (FISA) announced its 2015 award recipients. WinTech’s chief designer, Klaus Filter, received the Distinguished Service to International Rowing award. Per FISA’s website:

“Filter is known for revolutionising boat building. He began as a rower in East Germany and moved to boat building as a way to help support his family. Filter’s innovative ideas included bringing composite materials into boat building. He was a FISA commission member for a number of years and is known for always helping a rower with a boat problem.”

Filter is most known for integrating the human element into the evaluation and development of boat shape and waterline design. His designs, which all WinTech shells are based on, are of the most internationally decorated in the history of the sport.

Congratulations to our HOCR Athletes

Congratulations to all competitors, and especially winners, from the 51st Head of the Charles Regatta. It truly is the athletes and their competitive spirit that make this regatta of the best in the world.

On Saturday, August 22 along rowing’s famed Charles River in Boston, 16 teams consisting of an Eight, Quad, Double, and Single will relay along a 500-meter course with a 180 degree stake turn at the midpoint. Teams will compete in a head-to-head format with the top two times from the heats squaring off in a winner-take-all final.

WinTech Medalist 1x shines in drag factor testing

Dr. Valery Kleshnev of BioRow Ltd. – a rowing biomechanics consulting company –  recently performed a drag factor test of four singles, one of which was the WinTech Medalist.

Per the April 2015 newsletter:

Four singles of different brands were recently tested in an indoor tank (600m long, 16m wide, 7m depth, constant temperature +16 C) at Krylov State Research Centre in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The boats were:

  • Empacher (X10 A115, 2013, 85-100kg)
  • Filippi (F14, 2011, 80-95kg)
  • Wintech (Medalist, 2014, 75-85kg)
  • Nowing (local boat builder, 2014, 75-85kg)

The purposes of the test were to define the drag factors of each boat using two methods: rowing and towing, and then to find their correlation.”

The findings favored the Medalist, citing:

“Summary of the results of rowing and towing measurements: WinTech boat had the lowest average drag factor, Empacher 0.78% higher, Nowing 2.35% higher, and Filippi 2.95% higher. At the propulsive power 400W (rowing power 508W and time at 2km race about 6:35), above differences in the drag factor would give the advantage to WinTech of 1.02seconds over Empacher, 3.06s over Nowing, and 3.84s over Filippi.

VIDEO: Cash For Boats Program

WinTech’s Brendan Crotty discusses the new cash or credit for old boats program.

Have any shells collecting dust in your boathouse? We want them. Clear out some rack space and expand your rowable fleet thru the WinTech Cash or Credit Program.

It’s as simple as it sounds- we’ll make you an offer on your old boat. You can either take the cash, no questions asked, or apply 125% of that offer as trade-in towards a new WinTech or King shell. Boats are evaluated based on make, model, age, and general condition. And while we welcome all inquiries, ideal candidates are composite shells in the 10-15 year-old range. Offer valid upon drop-off of boat to Bridgeport, CT location.

WinTech Launches New Website & Online Store

WinTech is inviting the rowing community to explore its new online catalogue and information hub. The new site has been designed to provide a unique and comprehensive boat-buying experience.

“We felt it was time our branding elements come up to speed with our boats,” said WinTech president, Brendan Crotty. “The new site is sleek and refined, and very user-friendly. “

WinTech partnered with the digital creative firm [whitepenny], out of Haddonfield, NJ, to bring the site to life. “We’re thrilled with the results of this partnership, and we think that Wintech’s customers will be as well, ” said agency principal, Jon Cofsky. “Identity development is never easy, but helping Wintech match their brand assets with their reputation is as close as it gets, and it’s a testament to the amount of respect they have in their community.”

“The new site is just the beginning and a solid launching point for the rest of our initiatives moving forward,” added Crotty. “We’re exciting for what the future holds and bringing even more value-add to the rowing community at large.”
